About the Village

Administratively, Nyambu consists of several traditional community hamlets (banjar) and is characterized by a landscape dominated by rice fields, plantations, rivers, and village settlements. Agriculture remains the primary livelihood for many households, with rice cultivation playing a significant role in both the local economy and cultural identity. The village’s land use, community structure, and active participation in traditional institutions have helped preserve its rural character, making Nyambu one of the few areas in southern Bali where visitors can still experience an authentic village environment shaped by generations of agricultural heritage.

Many of them were involved from the early stages of developing Nyambu as an ecological tourism village, through community mapping, cultural documentation, and local training programs.
Why they formed the group
The group was formed from a shared concern over the rapid changes happening across Bali, particularly the conversion of farmland and the loss of local identity. Through community-based tourism, they wanted to create an alternative approach, one that protects rice fields, preserves traditions, and allows local people to remain active decision-makers in the future of their village.
