About the Village
Dukuh Sibetan Village is located in Bebandem District, Karangasem Regency, Bali. The village is renowned as the home of Bali’s salak (snake fruit), where around 14 local salak varieties are cultivated through a traditional agroforestry system that has been passed down through generations. The integration of salak orchards with forest trees and other crops creates a productive landscape that supports biodiversity while sustaining the community’s way of life.
The community’s agroforestry system has received international recognition through its designation as Indonesia’s only Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) site, acknowledging the community’s success in balancing agricultural production, environmental conservation, and local cultural heritage. Through community-based ecotourism, visitors are invited to experience village life firsthand, stay with local families, and discover how salak farming has become an integral part of Sibetan’s identity and daily life.
